AI Slop on Etsy

Amy Kay

This is a rant.

I used to like Etsy, I bought some queer bracelets off of there a few years back and they lasted me a good while. My money went to a shop in LA, and independent artist making her own bracelets.

Those creations still exist on the site, but it's overshadowed by the blatant AI generated slop that has taken over the site. Look up "wall decor" on the site, you'll get images of cats or raccoons smoking a cig, or just whatever thoughtless nonsense people are purchasing.

One example of this Slop

I do not blame Etsy for this, do I think they could something about this slop? Yes, but not a lot. I blame the sellers and most importantly the buyers. This imitation of human creativity would not be as prevalent if the consumer did not participate in the problem.

The worst thing, in my opinion, is that the sellers often admit that the work was generated by AI, but they never admit it was fully generated by AI. So are these people also artist who use unethical tools that steal from them to also help them sell a product? What is the thought process here? These decors don't even look good. I rather get a paint bucket and splatter it onto my wall than buy this crap.

Humans are worsening the global water crisis and climate change (all made by humans) to make an extra buck. Humans would own the clouds and precipitation in the air if they could.
