I Almost Died

Amy Kay

During the Fall Semester of 2026, I was crossing a street on my way to one of the college campuses. This particular street is basically a mini highway, during traffic hour it is packed. It was not one of those days, the nearest car was a few blocks away, maybe 100 feet or more. As I'm about a foot or less from the other side I hear this whoosh behind me. I almost died. I think about frequantly, that my impatiance and recklessness almost got me killed.

The core message and takeaway from this is to be safe. Even when there's no car for a 100 feet or more. Cars are fast. Faster than we can comprehend sometimes, especially with bad drivers. I should've waited for the stoplight, but I didn't.

I see people cross these type of streets all the time, with zero fucks given. But these small "I'll be fine" decisions sometimes are the ones that get us hurt, or worse.
