Plant Update 26/2/2026
Amy Kay
On Tuesday (24/2) I went to a local nursery named Put a Plant On It and it was a trip to get there. While walking to the bus stop near my home I saw the bus pass by, I was probably 30-60 seconds late the stop. I had to quickly journey down the long street to take another line. Then I took another line after that line.
Then, I was finally at the nursery, but wait! I need to deposite some money... then I had to eat at a coffee shop... THEN I went the nursery and it was actually really nice! A tad pricey but nothing that won't hurt the wallet doing it seasonally.
There were these free roaming parrots, most in their (opened) cages but a few hanging out on shelfs and the like. I occassionally forget how loud they can, much calmer than my puppies though. I didn't really know what to get, I was looking for something small and easy to put in a bag to take home without a car. But I did know that I needed a new pot for my Golden Pothos as she has long broken free from containment (her roots were long past the drainage holes).
So that was checked off. But while talking about Aloe Veras to a staff member she guided me to a freebie bin of aloes... I didn't have the room at home to really get a lot of them but I did get one!
After that... I sorta just wandered through the store wondering what to get. Specifically in the ~10 dollar range and something caught my eye; a Hoya carnosa. I've never seen this one before (to my knowledge) but she was in a tiny little pot but so tall! I knew I had to get her for my shelf.
The store was amazing! My counsoler has been recommending it to me for quite some time. Plants, nature, animals, gardening really helps my mental health. They give me a purpose to keep going. It can be hard to get up in the morning, but I have these plants (practically children really) that need attention and care. I'm really the only one in my household who knows how to take care of plants in the slighest. Without me, they would crumble and die.
One parrot trolled me... While putting things into my bag at the counter, a parrot walked onto the counter and started chipping wood right above where I was. He/She deliberatly chipped wood at the counter knowing it would land on my head and bag! That troll! Such interesting little creatures. They have their own lives and personalities. They live as long, if not longer than their owners in some cases. If they had thumbs humans would be extinct.
My spider plants have seen better days. Sylvie & Charlotte are doing fine, they're fighters (especially Char), but the tiny babies in the pots didn't all make it. I buried them in the Mothers' pot to be broken down but its still sad. My lesson here was that I simply took them too early. They had roots and all, but they were too sensitive at that age for me to have taken them.
Two are still alive and fighting. The more mature spider plants are doing well and the Mothers are still growing more babies. The Golden Pothos is doing better, lost plenty of leaves but still have many left and I propagated a stem? a branch? not too sure on the terminology there. But she's pretty green for the most part. Too much light definitely hurt a little but she's well now.
The Boston Fern is on the way to recovery after neglect from my mother (no shame). I trimmed her, so she's 95 percent healthy leaves now. She's definitely much smaller without the dead weight but it's more accurate to her size overall. She also moved up a level on the shelf! I moved the spider plants to one shelf alongisde the Pathos she's getting very good indirect light covarage and well moist. I also propagated some more plants from the kitchen window my other had. Hoping they succeed.
That's pretty much it. Apologies for the long post, just a lot new information.
Here's some photos :)
