Upusing an old computer

Amy Kay

Hey y'all! I have a cool project coming soon. My family have this old Lenovo PC from 2015 that is still in-use but we're replacing it soon. It's only really used for invoices and emails but I'm giving my old PC (which also happens to be my brother's old PC) to my family so they no longer have to deal with that old piece of junk.

What will I do with that 2015 Lenovo computer? I could sell the parts individually or together, or even donate the parts to an e-recycling plant. Or, even better; upuse it, make it a tiny server.

I made a post recently talking about wanting a home server. This piece of junk might give me that! Not a great server, but it's going to be quite fun I believe. I'm thinking of running a Minecraft server on it, and also a SFTP.

My real dream is to have a media server to stream and encode movies and shows off of a server but this computer won't be able to handle it. I'm currently drafting up a post going into the part details. Basically an in-depth look at each of the little components. I used HWINFO to grab all the info (minus the PSU, I have to look at the label myself). But in-short, the iGPU is pretty weak...

I'll have to order a tiny 80mm fan to exhaust air, as the case has no case fan... wild. I'll also need to buy a cheap SSD to host the Linux distribution off of.

Hopefully this project goes well, if it doesn't suit my needs then I can always make a profit by selling the parts.
